UFPC Team Members Receive Recognition at NAFEM

Louisville, Ky. — Oct. 12, 2005 —

Several Unified Foodservice Purchasing Co-op, LLC (UFPC) team members received honors from Yum! Brands, Inc. at a Global Engineering Team Meeting during the North American Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) show held Sept. 23-25 in Anaheim, Calif.

Barbara Bloecher, Larry Elliott and Candace Hilderbrand of the Equipment Purchasing Department each received Yum! Brands Shooting Star Awards. Yum! Brands’ Central Engineering Department gave these awards for outstanding leadership in the Supplier Tracking and Recognition (STAR) process. STAR helps to ensure compliance with UFPC and Yum! Brands supplier guidelines.

“I was very surprised by the award,” Bloecher said. “Any time you receive an award from a customer, it’s a positive thing for the entire team, not just for the award winners.”

Pam Hester, a Program Manager for the A&W and Long John Silver’s concept co-ops, received a Yum! Brands Global Engineering Patent from Roger McClendon, Director of A&W/Long John Silver’s/Multibrand Engineering. Hester provided exceptional customer service with relentless attention to detail in support of the A&W Drive-in/Drive-through project. She delivered significant value to the team by scrubbing the equipment package and smallwares list in detail.

Larry Elliott, a Purchasing Manager in Equipment Purchasing, also received a Yum! Brands Global Engineering Patent from Roger McClendon for his role in developing the Cornelius Cold Plate Root Beer Dispensing System. Elliott was instrumental in sourcing components and providing added value by negotiating the best price for concept co-op members.

Brad Clark, Director of Purchasing, received a Yum! Pak award of appreciation for his previous years of leadership in packaging purchasing.

Jody Shaikun, a Senior Program Specialist in Equipment and Smallwares, received a Yum! Brands Global Engineering Patent from Jack Murray, Senior Director of KFC Engineering, for KFC Grilled Project Team Support. She developed an Excel spreadsheet that tracked order and delivery dates for equipment and smallwares for this major test-marketing project.

James D. Olson, Chairman of the KFC National Purchasing Co-op, Inc. congratulated Shaikun for receiving the award, noting that her efforts made the grilled chicken test rollout to his stores “as smooth as possible.” Olson is also Director of Harman Management Corp., a leading KFC franchisee.

UFPC is the exclusive supply chain management organization for Yum! Brands, Inc. UFPC manages the supply chain for all corporate- and most franchise-owned A&W, KFC, Long John Silver's, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurant outlets in the United States. UFPC negotiates volume purchases of equipment, food, packaging and other supplies from manufacturers and suppliers for purchase by restaurant operators.
