STAR Awards Recognize Top Suppliers

Louisville, Ky. — May 27, 2009 —

Celebrating outstanding performance with their 10th annual dazzling STAR Awards ceremony, Yum! Brands, Inc. (Yum! Brands) and Unified Foodservice Purchasing Co-op, LLC (UFPC) hosted their top 23 U. S. suppliers at The Brown Hotel in Louisville, Ky. Commemorating remarkable achievements with 30 award statues, Yum! Brands and UFPC honored Tyson Prepared Foods and Tyson Mexican Original, which took home the coveted 2008 U.S. Food Supplier of the Year Award, along with Taco Bell’s U.S. Food Supplier of the Year Award and Pizza Hut’s U.S. Food Supplier of the Year. Winner of two prestigious STARs, Simmons Prepared Foods was recognized as KFC’s Food Supplier of the Year, while Griffith Laboratories was acknowledged as the Long John Silver’s Food Supplier of the Year. The Delfield Co. and Manitowoc Foodservice each received a U.S. Equipment Supplier of the Year Award, and Graphic Packaging boxed up the prize for U.S. Packaging Supplier of the Year.

“The suppliers recognized at this event have proven their commitment to innovation, high quality standards and supply chain service metrics,” said Daniel E. Woodside, UFPC’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “These companies are industry leaders and are critical to our long-term success.”

First-time attendees to the STAR Awards were Windsor Foods, Pilgrim’s Pride, Giles Foodservice Equipment, FBD Partnership, LP and Graphic Packaging. Special recognition was given to longtime distributor McLane for U.S. Distribution, plus EcoSure and Steritech Brand Protection Services for Food Safety. Previous STAR winners invited to this year’s gala included Leprino Foods Co., attending its sixth ceremony, seven-year veteran Paradise Tomato Kitchens, and Griffith Laboratories, a nine-year invitee, with 23 previous awards.

Leading the exclusive ceremony was Christian Campbell, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, and Chief Franchise Policy Officer from Yum! Brands. Doug Hasselo, KFC Chief Innovation Officer presided over the spectacular black-tie occasion. Demonstrating Yum! Brands’ and UFPC’s appreciation of excellence in product development, innovation, quality assurance, value and customer service, the event showcased these presenters: President and Chief Executive Officer of UFPC, Daniel E. Woodside; President and Chief Concept Officer of KFC, Roger Eaton; President and Chief Concept Officer of Pizza Hut, Scott Bergren; President and Chief Concept Officer for Taco Bell, Greg Creed; President of A&W Restaurants and Long John Silver’s, Ben Butler; and Vice President, Quality Assurance, Mike Liewen.
